US Prepares New Energy Sanctions on Russia if Peace Deal Fails — Bloomberg

The United States is preparing a fresh round of sanctions aimed at Russia’s energy sector to increase pressure on Moscow should President Vladimir Putin reject a peace agreement with Ukraine, according to Bloomberg.
The measures under consideration include targeting Russia’s so-called “shadow fleet” of oil tankers and traders who facilitate crude exports. The new sanctions could be announced as early as this week, though any final decision rests with President Donald Trump.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent discussed the plans with European ambassadors, reiterating Washington’s focus on ending the war in Ukraine. News of the potential measures briefly pushed oil prices higher, with Brent crude rising toward $60 a barrel.
The discussions come as US, Ukrainian and European officials report limited progress toward a possible peace framework, including talks on post-war security guarantees for Kyiv. Key disagreements remain over territorial issues, frozen Russian assets and broader security arrangements, leaving the outcome of negotiations uncertain.
