Civil Defense Recovers 30 Bodies of One Family From Rubble in Western Gaza City

Civil defense teams in Gaza have recovered the bodies of 30 victims from a single family after clearing the rubble of a destroyed home in western Gaza City, Palestinian authorities said on Tuesday.
According to a statement from Gaza’s Civil Defense, the victims were members of the Salem family who were killed on December 19, 2023, when a Zionist airstrike hit their house in the al-Rimal neighborhood of Gaza City. Officials believe that as many as 60 members of the family lost their lives in the attack.
The destroyed Salem family home is the first site included in a newly launched, organized campaign by the Civil Defense aimed at searching for thousands of Palestinians believed to be buried beneath the rubble of collapsed buildings across the Gaza Strip.
The agency said search and recovery operations will continue despite severe limitations in equipment and resources. Teams are relying on basic tools, including an excavator, to remove debris and retrieve bodies from the ruins.
Palestinian authorities say the Zionist entity currently occupies more than half of the Gaza Strip and continues military operations in other areas outside its direct control.
Since October 2023, the Zionist entity’s aggression on Gaza has killed nearly 70,700 Palestinians — the majority of them women and children — and injured more than 171,000 others, according to Palestinian figures. Large parts of the enclave have been reduced to rubble, with thousands still believed to be missing under the debris.
