UNICEF: 229 Palestinian Children Killed in Gaza Since Ceasefire Announcement

At least 229 Palestinian children have been killed and another 260 wounded since a ceasefire was announced in Gaza last October, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Speaking at a press briefing in Geneva, UNICEF spokesperson James Elder warned that highly lethal violence persists in the Palestinian enclave, despite the announced ceasefires.

For its part, the World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that roughly 10,000 children in Gaza are living with debilitating injuries.

Overall, 43,000 of the 172,000 people wounded since October 2023 have sustained severe trauma to their limbs, spinal cord, or brain.

Almost 2,500 people have been wounded since the October 2025 ceasefire.

Speaking from Al-Qods, the WHO Representative for occupied Palestine said that out of 2,277 amputees, fewer than 25% have been fitted with a permanent prosthetic due to equipment shortages.

Around 18 shipments of rehabilitation supplies are still waiting for clearance to enter Gaza, facing delays that range from 130 days to over a year.

“More than 50,000 wounded people are in need of rehabilitation, with no operational centers left in the enclave,” Dr. Reinhilde Van de Weerdt lamented.
