Lavrov Warns of Potential US-Driven European Conflict with Russia

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that the United States is preparing Europe for a potential direct conflict with Russia should Ukraine’s government fail. Speaking at the International Symposium “Creating the Future” in Moscow, Lavrov called such a conflict a “suicidal adventure” for Europe, suggesting that, as a contingency, the U.S. is positioning Europe to take more aggressive action. The symposium, hosted from November 4-6, includes representatives from 87 countries. Lavrov also announced that Russia would continue discussions on multipolar world principles at global forums, including the G20 summit in Brazil later this month.
Lavrov further criticized the UN’s lack of response to Ukraine’s proposed ban on the Russian language in schools, which he argued violates the UN Charter’s commitment to human rights protections. He urged UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to address the issue publicly, as the language ban impacts millions of Russian-speaking Ukrainians. Lavrov accused the West of attempting to monopolize international organizations and structures for unilateral advantages, complicating dialogue on an intergovernmental level.
