US Official: China Will Do What It Can to Open the Strait of Hormuz

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that China is expected to play a role in efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, adding that Beijing “will do what it can” to help restore normal maritime traffic through the strategic waterway.
He noted that China has a strong economic interest in keeping the strait open, given its heavy reliance on energy imports passing through the Gulf region.
The remarks come amid ongoing US–China diplomatic discussions focused on stabilizing shipping routes and reducing tensions linked to disruptions in the strait.
