Sudan: Victims and flooded villages following dam collapse in Red Sea State

KHARTOUM – A water dam in eastern Sudan’s Red Sea State collapsed as a result of recent torrential rains. This disaster has led to numerous casualties and flooded several villages, according to reports on Monday.

“The number of deaths is in the dozens, and it is currently difficult to ascertain the total number of victims as rescue teams have been unable to access the area,” added the reports.

The dam supplies water to the city of Port-Sudan, the capital of the Red Sea State, and it is located 20 km north of Port-Sudan on the coastal plain of the Red Sea.
