Russia to Build New Research Reactor for Vietnam

Russia will construct a new research reactor for Vietnam, with work scheduled to begin in 2027, according to Alexey Likhachev, CEO of the Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom. He emphasized the need for a more powerful and modern reactor, as the current Dalat reactor may be extended for up to 10 years.

The new reactor will be designed by Russia and will have a capacity of 15 megawatts, significantly more powerful than the existing facility. Likhachev confirmed that construction will follow the timeline set by Vietnam, with contracting set to begin in 2026.
