Iraq Assumes the Rotating Presidency of the G77 and China for 2025

Iraq has officially assumed the rotating presidency of the Group of 77 and China for the year 2025 during a high-level reception held at the United Nations headquarters in New York on Tuesday. The event was attended by Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, as reported by Iraqi media.

The ceremony brought together permanent representatives from UN member states, members of the Group of 77, and senior UN officials, all united in their aim to strengthen cooperation and solidarity among the group’s member nations.

Iraq’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Dr. Abbas Kadhom Obaid, opened the event with a speech emphasizing the “importance of unity and collaboration among member states to achieve common goals.”

The Iraqi diplomat also expressed that “this moment is a significant source of pride for Iraq, which is dedicated to working with all member states to fulfill the group’s aspirations.”

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Fouad Hussein conveyed his gratitude to the member states for their trust in Iraq’s leadership of this important group.

Established in 1964 by 77 developing countries, the Group of 77 is the largest intergovernmental organization of developing nations within the United Nations. It provides a platform to promote collective economic interests and enhance joint negotiating capacity on major international economic issues within the UN system.
