Kremlin Says Russia Has Adapted to Sanctions Pressure as US Tightens Oil Restrictions

Russia has learned to withstand and mitigate the impact of years of illegal Western sanctions, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said, signaling Moscow’s confidence in its economic resilience despite ongoing restrictions. His remarks come amid renewed pressure from Washington targeting Russian energy flows.
“We have already learned to act in a way that minimizes the consequences of such measures for our interests. We will continue to do so,” Peskov stated, underscoring the Kremlin’s position that sanctions have failed to achieve their intended effect. Russia has repeatedly argued that such measures violate international norms, while simultaneously accelerating efforts to adapt its economy through alternative trade routes and financial mechanisms.
The comments follow statements by US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who confirmed that the United States would not extend licenses that had temporarily allowed the purchase of Russian oil during the Iran conflict. The move suggests a tightening of US policy, potentially increasing pressure on global energy markets while testing Russia’s ability to sustain its adjusted economic strategy under prolonged sanctions.
