Trump Orders Release of 80,000 Pages of Declassified JFK Assassination Records

The US National Archives declassified and released 80,000 pages of records late Tuesday related to President John F. Kennedy’s 1963 assassination, following an executive order by President Donald Trump. The files, now available online, mark the most comprehensive disclosure effort to date, with Trump insisting on full transparency, stating, “You can’t redact.”

While most documents were published without redactions, some remain classified due to court seals or grand jury secrecy. A 1992 law mandated their release by 2017, but both Trump and Joe Biden delayed it during their presidencies. Trump, fulfilling a campaign promise, ordered the final release in January.

Although analysts do not expect a “smoking gun,” the FBI recently uncovered 2,400 previously undisclosed records among 14,000 pages of documents. These files, never submitted to official review boards, may hold new insights into the long-debated assassination.
