SelectUSA Summit Boosts Efforts for Joint U.S.–Algeria Investment Projects

Ways to develop joint Algerian-American projects were discussed during a meeting between the President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), Kamel Moula, and U.S. officials on the sidelines of the “SelectUSA” Investment Summit in Maryland, according to a statement issued by the council on Thursday.

As part of the summit, which began last Sunday with the participation of nearly 5,000 economic stakeholders representing 100 countries, Moula met with the Deputy Director General at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Thomas Bruns, in the presence of the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Algeria, Mark Schapiro.

The American official expressed satisfaction with Algeria’s participation in the investment summit, highlighting the strong partnership between Algeria and the United States, as well as the promising prospects for the further expansion of economic relations between the two countries.

He further expressed his desire to intensify efforts aimed at promoting Algeria and showcasing its potential to American business leaders.

Bruns proposed organizing an annual meeting between both parties to monitor and assess the progress of committed projects, according to the statement.

For his part, Moula outlined the economic transformations currently underway in Algeria, particularly in the industrial sector, which he said are opening up “broad prospects” for partnership between the two countries, noting that Algeria aims to develop “high-tech projects and establish partnerships across several sectors.” The CREA delegation also met with representatives from several U.S. states, as well as the team of the Governor of the State of Mississippi, which is known for its production capacity in corn, sugar cane, soybean, wheat, and cotton farming, in addition to the energy sector. Discussions focused on opportunities to develop joint projects in these fields, according to the statement.
