IsDB Selects 39 Algerian Resource, Excellence Centers

The Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) has selected 39 resource and excellence centers in Algeria as part of its initiative aimed at strengthening the exchange of expertise among countries of the Global South, according to a statement released Wednesday by the Ministry of Finance.

The announcement was made during the presentation ceremony of the official report on the mapping of resource and excellence centers in Algeria, held in Algiers in the presence of the Minister of Finance and Algeria’s Governor to the IsDB Group, Abdelkrim Bouzred, along with representatives from relevant ministerial sectors and development partners, notably the African Development Bank (AfDB) and agencies of the United Nations system.

The mapping report, prepared by an Algerian consulting firm commissioned by the IsDB, made it possible to identify and catalogue national expertise capacities across four major strategic sectors covering areas in which Algeria possesses recognized know-how and proven skills. These sectors include industry; energy and mining; infrastructure; human capital and innovation; as well as resilience and sustainable development.

Following a rigorous selection process, the work resulted in the designation of 39 Algerian institutions and organizations as “resource and excellence centers,” which may be mobilized by the IsDB and various development partners in the implementation of development projects across several countries.

These institutions were selected based on strict criteria, particularly taking into account their experience and capabilities, enabling them in the future to implement South-South cooperation projects aimed at strengthening the capacities of IsDB member countries and helping them achieve their development goals.

According to the statement, this initiative has enabled the establishment of the first structured mapping of its kind in Algeria, likely to support the internationalization of national skills and expertise, while also opening the possibility of expanding the list in the future.

The report’s findings highlight “a significant national potential offering Algeria the opportunity to promote, share, and export its technical expertise for the benefit of countries of the Global South, particularly IsDB member states.” This initiative forms part of the momentum generated during the annual meetings of the IsDB Group held in Algeria in 2025, which were marked by the official launch of a platform dedicated to promoting South-South cooperation.

In an address delivered at the ceremony, Bouzred stressed the “strategic” importance of this initiative, stating that it represents “a structuring tool that will help showcase national expertise and strengthen Algeria’s presence in the dynamics of international cooperation and development,” according to the statement.
