Thousands in Madrid Rally in Solidarity with Sahrawi People, Condemn Morocco’s Occupation

Thousands of demonstrators, including members of the Sahrawi community in Spain, took to the streets of Madrid on Saturday to show solidarity with the Sahrawi people’s struggle for freedom and independence. The rally was organized to protest the ongoing Moroccan occupation of Western Sahara and to demand justice for the Sahrawi people.
The demonstrators carried flags of the Sahrawi Republic and held banners affirming the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination. The protesters strongly condemned Spain’s official stance on the Western Sahara issue, holding Spain, as the former colonial power, legally and historically responsible for the plight of the Sahrawi people. They also criticized the Madrid Tripartite Agreement and its devastating consequences for the Sahrawi people due to the Moroccan invasion, which has led to crimes against humanity, the effects of which continue to haunt the Sahrawi community.
The demonstration featured speeches from representatives of various Spanish solidarity groups, as well as supporters and activists from the Polisario Front. The speakers emphasized the need to continue defending the rights of the Sahrawi people through legitimate and peaceful means. The annual rally, organized by Spanish solidarity associations in coordination with the Polisario Front’s representation in Spain, serves as a reminder to the Spanish government of its historical responsibility toward its former colony, Western Sahara, and aims to draw global attention to the ongoing Moroccan occupation in the region.
