Ségolène Royal Praises African-Mediterranean Meetings in Algiers and Calls for Stronger Mediterranean Ties

The President of the France-Algeria Association, Ségolène Royal, praised on Wednesday the “quality of reflections” at the “African-Mediterranean Meetings of Thought,” held in Algiers, stressing that such exchanges help push back ignorance while calling for stronger ties between the two shores of the Mediterranean.

Speaking at the event held at the Abdellatif Rahal International Conference Center (CIC), Royal said the quality of the discussions and exchanges “does a great deal of good in a world marked by chaos, selfishness, and materialism.” She also welcomed the holding of the meetings, which provide an opportunity to “return to the fundamentals of what is essentially good, true, and just.” “Science, knowledge, and cultural exchanges allow us to push back against the scourges of obscurantism and ignorance,” she added, noting that ignorance leads to indifference, “a major scourge of our time.”

The President of the France-Algeria Association also congratulated the Minister of Culture and Arts on organizing the event in “record time.” Concluding her remarks, Royal stressed the shared responsibility across the region: “We have a responsibility between the two shores of the Mediterranean. These high-level intellectual exchanges are truly essential to bringing us closer together and strengthening these bonds of friendship.”
