Russia Warns of Retaliation and Nuclear Escalation Amid NATO Involvement

Sergey Naryshkin, the director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), made a series of key statements regarding the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and Russia’s stance towards NATO involvement. Naryshkin warned that any NATO country participating in providing long-range missiles for Ukrainian forces to strike deep within Russian territory would face retaliation. He emphasized that such actions would not go unpunished, signaling Russia’s readiness to respond forcefully.
Furthermore, Naryshkin highlighted the expansion of Russia’s nuclear weapons policy, noting that the revised conditions for their use effectively eliminate the possibility of Russia being defeated on the battlefield. This move, he argued, undermines the strategic objectives of the United States and NATO, with the West understanding that it risks diminishing their efforts to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. The SVR director also conveyed that the West is now acutely aware of the need for greater restraint in its relations with Russia to avoid escalating the conflict into a catastrophic military confrontation.
