Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov highlighted on Monday that the infrastructure of the US missile defense base in Redzikowo, Poland, located just 165 kilometers (102 miles) from the Russian border, will enable the use of Tomahawk cruise missiles. Belousov noted that the base, which opened in November, is part of the ongoing buildup of US global missile defense capabilities. The base’s infrastructure will require only minor modifications to accommodate Tomahawk missiles, which are capable of being launched from the sea.
Belousov also mentioned the deployment of US medium-range missiles in Germany, scheduled for 2026, which would have the capability to reach Moscow in approximately eight minutes. These missiles will be able to cover a distance of up to 2,400 kilometers (1,500 miles). In addition, he warned that the United States is preparing to deploy hypersonic missiles, which would have an even faster flight time to Moscow.
In light of these developments, Belousov emphasized the importance of incorporating Russia’s successful experience in building an air defense system around Moscow into the construction of similar systems across other regions of the country, underscoring the growing security challenges posed by these missile deployments.
