Rare Black Moon Marks the End of the Year with Stunning Stargazing Opportunities

The year 2024 will conclude with a rare astronomical event known as a Black Moon, an occurrence marked by two new moons within a single calendar month. This celestial phenomenon is a treat for sky enthusiasts, even though the Black Moon itself remains invisible.
A new moon happens when the Moon’s dark side faces Earth, making it imperceptible to the naked eye. The Black Moon will occur December 31 for viewers in Europe, Africa, and Asia.
Despite its invisibility, the event will bring exceptionally dark skies, offering ideal conditions for stargazing. These darker skies will enhance the visibility of distant stars and planets, making the Black Moon a fitting finale to the astronomical year.
