Iran Calls for Clarity on Murder of Two Iranian Nationals in France

Iran’s High Council for Human Rights has called on French authorities to provide detailed documentation regarding the recent murders of two Iranian expatriates in Dunkirk, northern France.

The victims, Hamid Ghorbani and Hadi Rostami, were shot in the head by a French assailant in what has been described as a suspicious armed attack.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Council expressed concern over the unclear motives behind the attack. It highlighted that there was no apparent connection between the victims, prompting speculation that the killings could have been racially or terrorist-motivated.

The statement emphasized that the French authorities had yet to clarify whether the murders were the result of a criminal act or a premeditated terrorist attack.

The Council also referenced a July report by France’s National Consultative Commission on Human Rights, which revealed an alarming rise in Islamophobia and other forms of racism within the country.

The report underscored that many migrants, particularly those of African or Asian descent, face discrimination and hostile treatment, despite France’s efforts to present itself as a champion of democracy, freedom of expression, and hospitality toward foreigners.

The Iranian Human Rights Council’s call for transparency aims to shed light on the incident and address growing concerns about racial and xenophobic violence in France.
