Algeria participates in Opening of 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit

Representing the Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, the Ministry’s Secretary General, Miloud Medjelled, took part Tuesday in the opening ceremony of the 9th Nigeria International Energy Summit (NIES 2026) in Abuja, according to a ministry statement.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the President of the Republic of Gambia, alongside several senior officials and ministers. Also in attendance were the Ministers of Petroleum and Gas from Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, as well as the President and Secretary General of the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO).

Following the ceremony, APPO Secretary General Farid Ghezali (of Algeria) participated in a panel discussion regarding the development of the African energy sector and the strengthening of cooperation between member states.

On the sidelines of the summit, Miloud Medjelled held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Energy of Côte d’Ivoire. The two officials discussed ways to foster cooperation in the oil and gas sectors through the exchange of expertise and the exploration of new opportunities for partnership and joint investment.

Algeria’s participation in this event underscores its commitment to strengthening its presence in African and international energy forums, while promoting regional cooperation to contribute to the sustainable development of the continent.
