UK Foreign Secretary Slams Zionist Blockade on Gaza as “Horrendous”

British Foreign Secretary David Lammy on Wednesday strongly condemned “Israel”’s ongoing blockade of humanitarian aid into Gaza, calling the situation “horrendous” and warning of growing violations of international law and settler violence in the occupied Palestinian territories.

“The blockade that Israel is undertaking now of necessary aid into Gaza is horrendous. The suffering is dire. The need is huge. The loss of life is extreme,” Lammy told the UK Parliament’s International Relations and Defense Committee. He emphasized that the UK, alongside Germany and France, has openly condemned the obstruction of aid to Gaza.

Lammy recalled that he personally conveyed these concerns to Zionist officilas and reaffirmed Britain’s decision to suspend arms export licenses to the Zionist entity due to the “clear risk of a breach of international humanitarian law.” While the UK suspended 30 export licenses in September 2024—including those for drones, helicopters, and aircraft systems—it did not halt components linked to the F-35 fighter jet program, which rights groups say are being used in the bombardment of Gaza.

Reiterating the UK’s support for international legal institutions, Lammy confirmed continued backing for the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice.

Lammy said, “I’ve always said the Palestinian cause is a just cause,” but noted that recognition of Palestinian statehood should come as part of a process toward a two-state solution. He warned that current settlement expansion is undermining peace efforts, citing the establishment of 59 illegal outposts in the West Bank in the last year alone—far above the historical average.

Since the Zionist entity resumed its military assault on Gaza on March 18, more than 52,000 Palestinians—mostly women and children—have been killed, according to UN figures. The ICC has issued arrest warrants for Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former War Minister Yoav Gallant, while the Zionist entity also faces a genocide case at the ICJ.
