
ALGIERS – The Algerian President, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Minister of National Defence, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, chaired on Sunday a cabinet meeting to address a draft law on the settlement of the 2022 budget, along with two draft laws pertaining to the education and health sectors. Moreover, the meeting tackled proposals, including the creation of new administrative districts, in addition to partnerships under the Hydrocarbons Law.
According to a statement from the Algerian Presidency, the meeting followed presentations by the Prime Minister on the government’s activities over the past two weeks, and by the Minister, High Commissioner for Digitisation, on the comprehensive digitalisation’s progress. Besides, ministers discussed the draft laws and proposals.
The President issued the following directives:
On the Education Law:
– After the Minister of Education presented a summary, the Cabinet approved the law concerning the staff of the education sector.
– President Tebboune congratulated the education community on the completion of the long-awaited law, fulfilling his commitment to uphold the sector’s scientific and social dignity, recognising education as the backbone of society and the key to the nation’s future.
– The President praised the responsible collaboration between the parties involved in drafting the law and expressed hope that it would provide much-needed support for teachers.
– He directed the government to introduce additional measures for teachers’ retirement, taking into account the unique challenges of the profession. These measures will be further detailed in an executive decree.
On the Health Law:
– After the Minister of Health presented a summary, the Cabinet approved the fundamental law for the health sector, which covers medical and paramedical professionals, including specialists, general practitioners, dentists, pharmacists, paramedics, midwives, anaesthetists, biologists, psychologists, and paramedical educators.
– President Tebboune congratulated the healthcare sector on finalising the law and expressed hope it would address the concerns of healthcare workers and enhance their performance.
– He commended the high level of responsibility displayed by all parties involved in finalising the law.
On New Administrative Districts:
– The Cabinet approved the elevation of the following areas to the status of administrative districts, each to be managed by a Wali (governor): El Kantara in Biskra, Ksar El Boukhari in Médéa, Bir El Ater in Tébessa, and El Aricha in Tlemcen.
– This decision is part of President Tebboune’s efforts to promote equitable development across the country, addressing citizens’ needs while considering the geographical, social, and economic conditions of these regions.
On Partnerships under the Hydrocarbons Law:
– The President instructed the government to continue advancing the national energy system in line with the country’s interests.
– He emphasised the importance of investing in clean energy, focusing on exports, and directing the proceeds toward national development.
Ultimately, the meeting concluded with the approval of the 2022 budget settlement and the endorsement of presidential decrees related to international cooperation.
