Sumud Flotilla Sets Sail from Italy to Break Gaza Blockade Amid Growing Humanitarian Crisis

The global Sumud flotilla, in solidarity with the Palestinian people, departed from Italy on Sunday to break the blockade imposed on Gaza Strip and deliver urgent humanitarian aid to its population.

The flotilla’s spokesperson in Italy, Maria Elena Dalia, said that around 65 vessels are expected to depart gradually from the port of Augusta in Sicily, a process that may take some time.

“The flotilla’s first stop will be Greece,” she added.

A previous attempt was launched in September 2025 from Barcelona, involving 42 vessels and 462 participants.

On October 1, the Zionist entity attacked 42 vessels from the flotilla as they were sailing in international waters toward Gaza, detaining hundreds of international activists before initiating their expulsion.

Currently, the flotilla is expected to bring together around 1,000 volunteers from 70 countries.

The Gaza Strip has been experiencing an unprecedented humanitarian and health crisis since the start of the Zionist genocidal aggression on October 7, 2023, which has led to the massive destruction of infrastructure, particularly hospitals and healthcare facilities.
