Sudan: 20,000 People Flee Fighting in Darfur to Chad in Two Weeks

Nearly 20,000 individuals have fled the fighting in Darfur over the past two weeks, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), which has highlighted the ongoing influx of refugees into neighboring Chad as they escape the conflict in Sudan.

The UNHCR reported that almost 20,000 people—primarily exhausted and traumatized women and children—have arrived in eastern Chad within the last fortnight. The agency expressed “serious concern” regarding the rapid increase in the number of Sudanese refugees entering this Central African country.

The largest surge was recorded at the Tiné border post in Wadi Fira province, where approximately 6,000 individuals arrived in just two days. Since April 21, more than 14,000 people have been documented in Wadi Fira, including 12,000 in the past week alone. Additionally, over the last 15 days, an extra 5,300 individuals arrived in Ennedi East, with 1,000 of them crossing the border on Sunday alone.
