OCHA: “Israeli” aggression on Gaza destroys 92% of homes across the Strip

GAZA – The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said on Monday that 92% of homes in the Gaza Strip, or about 436,000 homes, were destroyed or damaged as a result of the “Israeli” aggression, while 90% of Palestinian civilians were displaced from their homes.

“The ceasefire announcement is a source of hope, but the challenge ahead is daunting,” the WHO representative in Palestine, Rick Peeperkorn, said, adding that addressing the enormous needs and restoring the health system will be a complex and difficult task, given the scale and complexity of the operations and the constraints involved.

In the meantime, Doctors without Borders (MSF) said the humanitarian needs have mounted to catastrophic levels, and meeting even a fraction of these needs will only be possible through a rapid and large-scale increase in global humanitarian aid to and within the Gaza Strip.

“For more than 15 months, hospital rooms have been filled with patients with severed limbs and other life-altering trauma, caused by strikes, and distressed people searching for the bodies of their family members. Health facilities and medical staff have been attacked, and eight MSF colleagues have been killed during this war. Meanwhile, the number of people arbitrarily detained from Gaza and the West Bank is appalling,” MSF said in a statement.

The ceasefire in the Gaza Strip came into effect on Sunday at 11:15 am (local tile), after being delayed for more than two and a half hours.

Since October 7, 2023, the occupation forces have launched a genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, which resulted in the martyrdom of at least 47,035 Palestinians and the injury of more than 111,091 others, while about 11,000 are still missing under the rubble and in the streets.
