LOPIS Commends Algeria’s Pioneering Diplmatic Role

The League of Scholars, Preachers, and Imams of the Sahel (LOPIS) has praised Algeria’s “pioneering” role on both regional and international fronts through its inclusive approach to crisis resolution in Africa, particularly within the Sahel region. The league also commended Algeria’s ongoing efforts to establish security and stability in the region.

In a statement published on LOPIS’s official website, the league’s president, Mr. Abakar Walar, stated, “We, the residents of the Sahel region, are grateful to have a neighbor like Algeria, which stands as an unwavering bulwark and protective shield against all destructive ideologies, especially violent extremism that is cloaked in religion.”

Mr. Walar emphasized Algeria’s strategies designed to tackle the challenges facing the African continent, noting that these approaches are comprehensive and encompass aspects related to security, development, and spirituality, all aimed at ensuring safety and prosperity for our region. He also acknowledged Algeria’s contributions to the broader Muslim world and specifically to the Sahel region.

Additionally, the Secretary-General of the League, Lakhmissi Bezzaz, expressed his satisfaction with the effectiveness of Algerian diplomacy at both African and international levels. In a statement on the league’s website, he pointed out “the presence of remarkable diplomatic efforts across all domains, including religious diplomacy, through which Algeria seeks to promote the development of the African continent and defend its achievements.”

Among the initiatives pursued by Algeria in collaboration with other African nations is the goal of “securing a permanent seat for the continent on the UN Security Council.”

The representative from Niger to the league, Mr. Ibrahim Moussa Ismail, commended Algeria’s “pioneering” role on regional and international stages, particularly its commitment to security and peace across Africa, with special emphasis on the Sahel region.

“The Algerian diplomacy plays a significant role on the continent and within the Security Council,” he remarked, expressing gratitude for Algeria’s support to his country in rejecting military intervention and advocating for peaceful conflict resolution, while also praising Algeria’s “effective” approaches to resolving crises in Africa.
