Judo: Algerian Hamid Chalal Named President of Arab Union Medical Commission

Hamid Chalal from Algeria has been appointed as the president of the Medical Commission of the Arab Judo Union (UAJ). His appointment was announced during the closing ceremony of the Arab Championships 2025, held on Thursday evening in Amman, Jordan.

In a brief statement shared on its social media platforms on Friday, the Algerian Judo Federation (FAJ), led by President Yacine Sillini, congratulated Chalal on his new role and extended their best wishes for his success.

Chalal is the second Algerian to assume a leadership position within the Arab Judo Union for the Olympic term 2025-2028, following Khaled Ouennouf, who joined the union’s executive board just two days earlier during the UAJ’s electoral general assembly.

The national cadet team emerged as the 2025 Arab champion, excelling both individually and in team events. In individual competitions, the team secured a total of 11 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, and 3 bronze), finishing ahead of Morocco, which took second place with 3 gold and 2 silver medals, while Kuwait rounded out the podium with 2 gold, 4 silver, and 1 bronze.

Algeria’s six gold medals were won by Larbi Addad (-55 kg), Mohamed Amine Dekouah (-60 kg), Oussama Laïb (-73 kg), and Soheïb Zitouni (-81 kg) in the men’s categories, alongside Roufaïda Bousebaâ (-44 kg) and Dounia Berrahouel (-57 kg) in the women’s divisions.

Dounia Adda (-70 kg) and Ranim Chaïbi (-52 kg) earned the two silver medals, while the bronze medals were claimed by Alae-Eddine Sahraoui (-50 kg), Mohamed Sadek Laoued (-66 kg), and Merouane Mohamed Anis Bettahar (-90 kg).

In the team events, both the boys’ and girls’ national teams reached the finals after outstanding performances in the elimination rounds. They triumphed over Kuwait (4-1) and Morocco (3-2), respectively.

This success serves as a strong affirmation of the young Algerian representatives, all of whom had previously won gold medals at the last African championships in their respective categories.
