Italy: Algerian Army General Meets with Italian Defense Minister

Algerian Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the People’s National Army of Algeria (ANP), was received by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto on Thursday, marking the final day of his official visit to Italy, according to a press release from the defense ministry.

“In the context of his official visit to Italy, at the invitation of Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chief of the Italian Defense Staff, Army General Saïd Chanegriha met today, October 3, 2024, with Defense Minister Mr. Guido Crosetto, in the presence of Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone,” the statement detailed.

During their meeting, both parties expressed satisfaction with the high level of military cooperation between their two nations, which reflects the mutual understanding and strong trust characteristic of Algerian-Italian relations across various domains.

They also discussed “the current situation and the geopolitical changes affecting areas of common interest.”

The Army General extended his heartfelt gratitude to his host for the warm welcome and hospitality he experienced, conveying greetings from President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, who emphasizes efforts to elevate Algerian-Italian relations to the highest levels across all sectors, particularly in terms of bilateral military cooperation.

Furthermore, the Army General highlighted “the areas of bilateral cooperation, which are experiencing positive dynamics and yielding tangible results, thanks to the steadfast commitment of the leaders of both countries to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership.”

In turn, the Italian Defense Minister expressed “his great satisfaction in receiving the Algerian military delegation and his confidence in the ability of both friendly nations to forge a solid and mutually beneficial partnership, particularly in security and defense.”

At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties exchanged symbolic gifts.

Following this, Army General Saïd Chanegriha visited the Italian company Leonardo SPA, “a leading firm in Europe within the defense industry and advanced technologies, offering a diverse range of military solutions, especially in aeronautics, aerospace, and land and naval defense systems,” as noted in the same source.

The Army General received “comprehensive explanations about the modern defense technologies and systems provided by the Italian firm, whose representatives expressed their interest in strengthening their partnership with Algeria in various aspects of military industries.”

He also visited the headquarters of Fincantieri, “specialized in naval military industry,” where he attended “a presentation outlining the history of naval partnership between Algeria and Italy, before inquiring about the company’s production capabilities in warship construction and naval military equipment, as well as the modern techniques it offers.”

On this occasion, both sides expressed their desire to “enhance bilateral cooperation.”

The company’s CEO, Biagio Mazzotta, affirmed that Algeria represents “a reliable and serious partner at both regional and international levels.”

In conclusion, the two parties discussed “methods to facilitate technology transfer and improve the exchange of expertise between military engineers and technicians from both countries,” the statement noted.
