Iran Says Strait of Hormuz Under Strict Control, Remains in Previous Operational State

The spokesman for Iran’s Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters announced that the Strait of Hormuz is under strict control of the Iranian Armed Forces and will remain in its previous operational state, the Tasnim news agency reported.

In a statement on Saturday, the spokesperson said that in line with previous understandings reached during negotiations, Tehran has agreed to allow a limited number of oil tankers and commercial vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in a managed manner.

He added, however, that as a result of the ongoing U.S. blockade, the Strait “has been returned to its previous state, and this strategic waterway is under strict management and control by the Armed Forces.”

Accordingly, he noted that until the United States ends restrictions on the free movement of vessels from Iran to their destinations and from elsewhere to Iran, the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will remain tightly controlled and unchanged from its previous status.
