Chaib Presents Algeria’s Vision at UN Migration Forum in New York

The Algerian Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the National Community Abroad, Sofiane Chaib, took part Thursday in New York in the proceedings of the International Migration Review Forum, during which he presented Algeria’s vision based on promoting a development-oriented and humanitarian approach to addressing migration and human mobility issues in light of current international challenges and changes, according to a statement from the ministry.
In a speech delivered on the occasion, Chaib affirmed that, “in line with the vision of President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Algeria places comprehensive development and respect for human dignity at the heart of its national strategy, stemming from its firm conviction that the sustainable management of the migration phenomenon requires addressing its root causes through support for socioeconomic stability and the strengthening of development opportunities,” the statement added.
The Secretary of State stressed that “Algeria adopts a comprehensive and balanced approach in managing migration issues, reconciling humanitarian, developmental and security imperatives within the framework of respect for State sovereignty and the provisions of international law.”
At the close of his address, Chaib underlined that “migration issues remain a collective international responsibility requiring strengthened solidarity and multilateral international cooperation to ensure the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and guarantee dignified and humane treatment of migrants, thereby upholding the values of justice and human solidarity that should guide joint international action in this field,” the statement concluded.
