Algeria’s President Concludes Official Visit to Türkiye

The Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune concluded Friday his official visit to the Republic of Türkiye, a visit that reflected the depth of the strong historical ties between the two countries and confirmed their shared determination to elevate bilateral cooperation to broader horizons.

During the visit, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune was given an official welcome in Ankara by the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The official reception took place at the Presidential Complex of the Republic of Türkiye.

The two presidents also held in-depth talks focusing on the state of bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them, in addition to exchanging views on current issues of common interest.

On this occasion, the President of the Republic co-chaired with President Erdogan the first session of the Algeria-Türkiye High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council, which was crowned by the signing of major agreements covering vital sectors including industry, trade, agriculture, media, postal services and transport. The leaders of the two countries also signed the joint declaration concluding the session.

In a joint press statement with his Turkish counterpart, the President of the Republic said Algerian-Turkish relations “are experiencing growing momentum, which we welcome, while commending the progress achieved to reach this level.”

He further stated that his official visit Türkiye aims to “enhance the level of cooperation” through “diversifying economic cooperation and expanding partnership areas to renewable energy, agriculture, industry and mining sectors, as well as strengthening bilateral cooperation in the cultural and human fields and promoting our shared historical and civilizational heritage.”

President Tebboune expressed satisfaction with the results of the “rich and fruitful” talks held with President Erdogan, praising “the reactivation of the Business Forum and its central role in trade exchanges and investment dynamics between economic operators of the two countries.”

On the international level, he stressed Algeria and Türkiye’s attachment to peaceful solutions in conflict resolution and respect for international legality.

For his part, President Erdogan highlighted his country’s willingness to develop bilateral cooperation with Algeria, which he described as “one of Türkiye’s largest trading partners on the African continent, particularly in several strategic sectors such as energy, mining, transport and agriculture.”

He also praised Algeria’s support for the Palestinian cause, particularly during its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council.

During the visit, President Tebboune was decorated by the Turkish President with the Order of the State, Türkiye’s highest civilian distinction awarded to heads of state and royal families, in strengthening bilateral relations with Türkiye.

On the occasion, the Algerian President considered that the awarding of the Order of the State actually “embodies an exemplary partnership driven by growing momentum and major ambitions.” It also “reflects the willingness of our two countries to be actors contributing to security and peace efforts, particularly in light of the situation prevailing in the Middle East and Gulf region,” he added.

For his part, President Tebbounbe awarded his Turkish counterpart the ‘Athir’ Order of National Merit Medal in recognition of his efforts to strengthen bilateral relations and consolidate partnership with Algeria in various fields.

In his address on the occasion, President Erdogan said bilateral relations “have reached, thanks to the sincere support of my dear brother Abdelmadjid Tebboune, their highest levels in the history of the Republic.”

“We closely follow the vision of my dear brother Abdelmadjid Tebboune, that of New Algeria, and we are delighted to see Algeria, under his enlightened leadership, shining in its region,” he continued.

On the final day of the visit, the Algerian President greeted members of the national community residing across different regions of Türkiye who came in large numbers to his residence in Ankara to meet him and welcome him.
