Algeria’s Chaib Chairs Consular Coordination Meeting in Madrid

Algeria’s Secretary of State in charge of the national community abroad, Sofiane Chaib, chaired a coordination meeting on Friday in Madrid with heads of consular posts in southern Europe, the foreign ministry said.
The meeting, held at the Algerian embassy at the end of his working visit to Spain, focused on improving consular services for Algerians living abroad and reviewing preparations for upcoming legislative elections involving the diaspora.
Participants examined measures to modernise administrative and consular services, including projects nearing completion such as the remote renewal of biometric passports, aimed at improving service delivery and bringing administration closer to citizens.
Chaib called for accelerating the implementation of these measures, stressing efficiency and consistent application across all consular missions.
On election preparations, he urged full mobilisation of human, material and logistical resources to ensure optimal conditions for voters abroad, while emphasising coordination with representatives of the Independent National Electoral Authority (ANIE).
He also highlighted the need to prepare for the summer season, which typically sees increased travel by members of the diaspora, calling for facilitation measures to ensure smooth movement and service provision, the statement added.
