Algeria to Inaugurate Africa’s Largest R&D Center to Boost Technological Innovation

The largest research and development center of its kind in Africa will soon be inaugurated in Algeria, announced Sid Ali Zerrouki, Minister of Post and Telecommunications, on Wednesday in Algiers, emphasizing the strategic significance of this initiative in promoting technological innovation.

This statement was delivered during a session addressing the questions and concerns of start-up representatives, held alongside the opening ceremony of the 4th E-commerce and Online Services exhibition, “ECSEL EXPO.” The event was attended by the Minister of Domestic Trade and National Market Regulation, Amel Abdellatif, the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Noureddine Ouadah, the Minister and High Commissioner for Digitalization, Meriem Benmouloud, as well as representatives from several ministerial departments.

According to the minister’s statements, agreements will be signed with “global leaders” in technology within the framework of this center, which will serve as an open space for young researchers and developers to transform their ideas into concrete projects that contribute to the national economy.

Zerrouki commended the momentum characterizing Algeria’s technology sector, emphasizing that adapting to global changes has become an imperative to ensure the sustainability of enterprises.

For his part, Ouadah revealed that an agreement will be signed in the coming weeks with the public accelerator “Algeria Venture” to develop specialized programs in advanced technologies and artificial intelligence (AI).

He emphasized that this program, which will be implemented in collaboration with economic enterprises, will help channel efforts towards establishing a solid foundation for a knowledge-based economy.

Meanwhile, Abdellatif, emphasized the importance of continuing awareness campaigns targeting merchants to promote the adoption of electronic payment solutions, in collaboration with banking institutions, as well as the digitization of commercial and administrative services to streamline procedures.
