ALGIERS – As representative of the Algerian President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the minister of State, minister of Energy, Mines and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, will participate Tuesday in Dar es Salam (Tanzania), in Africa Heads of State Energy Summit, the ministry said in a press release.
This summit is being held on the initiative of the African Development Bank Group and the World Bank Group, in collaboration with the African Union. It will be preceded on Monday by ministerial sessions and workshops, said the press release.
This summit promotes the “Mission 300” initiative, which aims to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030, according to the same source.
On the eve of this summit, Arkab will participate in a ministerial session under the theme “Policies and reforms, transforming the energy sector in Africa,” so as to “present Algeria’s ambitious vision and its pioneering role as a historical energy producer, and its efforts to promote sustainable development across the African continent through the implementation of its energy program in electricity production and strengthening electrical connections, in addition to solar energy production projects and the development of green hydrogen projects,” according to the press release.
Algeria’s participation will highlight the great potential it has in providing innovative solutions that support the continent’s objective of providing clean and affordable energy, added the same source.
Emphasis will be particularly placed on the effective and axial role played by Algeria through Sonatrach and Sonelgaz, as well as numerous actors in this field, to support and accompany African countries in developing their energy systems.
In addition to Algeria’s continuous efforts to train African executives in its specialized energy institutes, Algeria’s participation in this summit reflects “its commitment to supporting regional initiatives aimed at eliminating energy poverty and strengthening regional and international cooperation and partnerships to provide advanced energy solutions that meet the needs of African peoples and contribute to achieving sustainable development goals,” concluded the press release.
