WHO Warns 14,800 Gaza Patients Need Urgent Care unavailable in the enclave

GAZA – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced Thursday that it had facilitated the medical evacuation of 38 critically ill patients from the Gaza Strip, calling on more countries to provide lifesaving treatment and restore medical referral routes. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the evacuation, supported by the EU’s humanitarian arm ECHO, included 32 children and six adults, accompanied by 99 family members. Of these, 25 children and six adults were transferred to Italy, five children to Belgium, and two children to Türkiye for specialized care.

Tedros expressed gratitude to ECHO and the governments that had shown solidarity with Gaza’s critical patients, but warned that over 14,800 people in Gaza still need urgent medical treatment unavailable due to the ongoing conflict and the collapse of the health system. He urged more countries to step forward with assistance and called for the restoration of referral routes to the West Bank, including East Al-Quds, before it is too late. The WHO chief also renewed his appeal for an immediate ceasefire, stating: “Peace is the best medicine.”

The Zionist entity continues to face mounting condemnation for its genocidal war on Gaza, which has killed more than 61,700 people since October 2023. In November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Zionist officials for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. The International Court of Justice is also examining a genocide case against the zionist entity over its war on the enclave.
