Western Sahara International Film Festival Opens With Strong Global Participation

The 19th Western Sahara International Film Festival “FiSahara” opened Tuesday evening in Aousserd’s Sahrawi refugee camps, under the theme “Walking to Our Land,” marked by a strong international presence.

The opening ceremony was presided over by the President of the Sahrawi Republic and the Secretary General of the Polisario Front, Brahim Ghali, accompanied by Sahrawi Prime Minister Bouchraya Hamoudi Bayoun, and several government members.

The international cultural event will bring together over 288 participants, representing 24 countries, and will run through 3 May, coinciding with the Regional Festival for Culture and Popular Arts.

The festival, organized by the Sahrawi Ministry of Culture, will feature film screenings by Sahrawi and foreign directors, as well as training workshops and conferences addressing cinema and human rights, alongside art exhibitions, the event organizers said.

The event also featured an introductory meeting for participating delegations, during which the festival programme and its main themes were presented.
