The Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel Rezig, discussed Wednesday, in Algiers, with the Ugandan Deputy Minister of Trade and Cooperatives, Frederick Ngobi Gume, ways to strengthen bilateral trade and economic relations and develop cooperation frameworks between the two countries, a ministry statement said.
The same source said that the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters on the occasion of the Ugandan official’s working visit to Algeria, was dedicated to reviewing opportunities for boosting trade exchanges and fostering economic partnerships between business operators in both countries.
The source further noted that the two sides discussed mechanisms for drawing up a joint action plan to implement their agreed objectives across trade and economic integration, with particular emphasis on supporting bilateral trade and exploring cooperation opportunities in sectors of mutual interest.
Both parties also underscored the importance of activating the Algerian-Ugandan Business Council as a platform for boosting business-to-business communication and opening up new avenues for partnership and investment.
The statement noted that the discussions also covered ways to advance African economic cooperation and consolidate the bilateral partnership in light of the opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), with a view to developing intra-African trade and boosting exports across the continent.
