West Bank: The UN Humanitarian Coordinator announces allocation of $750,000 for olive farmers

New York (United Nations) – The UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Mounir Hadi, stressed the need to provide safe access for Palestinian farmers to their lands without any obstacles, in light of the escalating violations by the Zionist occupation forces and settlers against Palestinians, coinciding with the olive harvest season.
This statement was made during the daily UN press briefing, where Hadi expressed his concerns regarding the upcoming olive harvest season, during a diplomatic visit to the town of Kifl Haris, north of Salfit in the West Bank, accompanied by humanitarian and development partners.
Hadi emphasised the importance of the olive harvest season, which is a major economic, social, and cultural event for Palestinians. He noted that around 10,000 hectares of olive groves were not harvested last year, reflecting the farmers’ suffering.
The UN Humanitarian Coordinator announced the allocation of $750,000 from the humanitarian aid fund to support olive farmers in Palestine this year.
Today, settlers uprooted trees of over 20 years old in the village of Yasouf, east of Salfit, in the Wadi area north of the village.
Two days ago, dozens of settlers attacked farmers while they were harvesting olives in the northern part of Yasouf village before the local residents intervened and forced them to flee.
Settlers, under the protection of Zionist forces, also attacked olive harvesters in the village of Jaloud and the town of Qusra south of Nablus, forcing them to leave their lands at gunpoint.
With the continued genocide against the Palestinian people and the arrival of the olive harvest season, the Zionist occupation forces and settlers have escalated their violations against farmers in the West Bank, including assaults, theft of olives, uprooting, and breaking of trees.
