Ukraine Faces Trump Criticism Over ‘Lack of Gratitude’ as Geneva Talks Continue

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that Ukraine has not been grateful for American efforts related to the war with Russia even as U.S. weapons continue to flow and Europe keeps buying Russian oil.
“UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA. THE USA CONTINUES TO SELL MASSIVE $AMOUNTS OF WEAPONS TO NATO, FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UKRAINE,” Trump said in a Truth Social post as U.S., Ukrainian and European officials met in Geneva for talks on a draft plan presented by Washington to end the war.
Separately, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he expects the peace process between Russia and Ukraine to move forward, but that he had not discussed with President Donald Trump a Thanksgiving deadline for Ukraine to sign onto the U.S. peace plan.
“At the end of the day, it’s going to be a decision with the Ukrainians,” Bessent told NBC’s “Meet the Press” program.
In parallel, Ukrainian, U.S. and European officials met in Geneva to discuss the draft plan presented by Washington to end the war in Ukraine, after Kyiv and its allies voiced alarm over what they saw as major concessions to Russia.
Ukrainian senior security official Rustem Umerov said Kyiv expects to make more progress during the Geneva talks.
“Our current proposals while still not finalized include many Ukrainian priorities,” Umerov, Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council, wrote on Telegram.
“We appreciate our American partners working closely with us to understand our concerns to reach this critical point and we expect to make more progress today.”
