Turkish FM: We support Algeria’s stance on the Sahel and will remain a reliable partner

ALGIERS –Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan affirmed on Monday that Algeria, with its capabilities and potential, represents a key pillar of stability in the region, and praised its effective efforts within the United Nations Security Council to address the challenges facing the region.

In a statement to the press following his meeting with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said he had conveyed the greetings of President Erdoğan, adding that Turkey is set to host the Algerian president later this year as part of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Meeting.

Fidan praised the “significant economic progress Algeria has achieved under the leadership of President Tebboune” and emphasized “the vital importance of Algeria’s positions and the policies it pursues on international matters.”

He affirmed in this regard that “Algeria, with its capabilities and resources, is one of the guarantees of stability in the region,” and that his country “closely follows Algeria’s positions as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.” He added, “Algeria successfully brings the issues and challenges of our region to the agenda of the Security Council.”

Accordingly, FM Fidan noted that “Turkey places its trust in Algeria and will always remain a friend,” emphasizing that “this stance and goodwill are equally shared by Algeria.” Additionally, he highlighted the shared will of both countries to “intensify their consultations on regional issues and joint policies.”

The Turkish foreign minister affirmed that his country “will continue to support the Palestinian people in the strongest possible way,” and praised Algeria’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, emphasizing that both countries will work to “further strengthen their cooperation in international forums and remain steadfast in defending the rights of the Palestinian people.”

Furthermore, he discussed other international issues addressed during the meeting, such as the situation in Libya, where he encouraged all parties to engage in “constructive, sincere, and effective dialogue to achieve lasting security and stability in the country.”

Regarding the Sahel region, he affirmed his country’s support for Algeria’s stance, which is based on a peaceful solution to regional issues, adding, “We will continue to work together to address problems rooted in terrorism and extremism.”
