The Arab League calls for collaborative efforts to effectively address natural disasters in Arab countries.

The Arab League has called for a collaborative effort both regionally and internationally to address natural disasters in Arab countries and to enhance their ability to effectively face challenges while ensuring the safety of communities and the environment.
This statement was made during the second meeting of Arab ministers concerned with disaster risk reduction, which began today, Wednesday, at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
In his speech during the meeting, the Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the Arab League, Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, stated that “this meeting is being held in light of significant repercussions faced by the Arab region over the past few decades. Arab countries are exposed to various natural hazards such as drought, desertification, dust and sandstorms, floods, extreme weather events, wildfires, hurricanes, as well as geological hazards like earthquakes, landslides, and climate change, in addition to human-made risks.”
He explained that the Arab League, through the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, has worked in recent years to build distinguished Arab, regional, and international partnerships that have significantly contributed to enhancing joint Arab cooperation in the field of disaster risk reduction. These partnerships have bolstered the Arab region’s global standing by presenting important initiatives and projects within the Arab disaster risk reduction framework, which will be presented on the agenda, including a draft project for the Arab Roadmap for cooperation, preparedness, and response to nuclear and radiological emergencies, as well as the Arab project for marine disaster risk reduction.
The meeting will discuss the approval of projects from the sixth meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction, held at the Arab League headquarters from August 18 to 20, and the adoption of the logo for the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction for 2025, which was approved by the sixth meeting of the Arab Coordination Mechanism under the theme “Resilient and Disaster-Resistant Arab Infrastructure.”
