Spain Expels Moroccan National Linked to Drug Trafficking Network

The Spanish National Police have announced the expulsion of a Moroccan national after he completed his sentence at the Girona penitentiary, authorities said Thursday. The man had previously been convicted for trafficking a large quantity of drugs from the Moroccan port of Tangier.
According to a police statement reported by Spanish media, the expelled inmate was arrested by the Spanish Civil Guard at the port of Algeciras during a truck inspection of a vehicle arriving from the port of Tanger-Med in Morocco. The security personnel uncovered a hidden compartment in the vehicle containing 202 rolls of Moroccan hashish intended for distribution within Spain.
The decision to expel him is part of a broader series of operations carried out by Spanish authorities targeting individuals deemed a threat to public security, including those involved in drug trafficking networks operating between northern Morocco and southern Spain.
These efforts coincide with other recent busts. On November 9, Spanish risk analysis units discovered over 2,100 kilograms of hashish concealed in truck trailers arriving from Tangier at the port of Algeciras, using hidden compartments and unusual structural modifications to evade detection. Six people were arrested in connection with that operation.
Spain’s security forces have been increasingly active in intercepting drug smuggling operations across the Strait of Gibraltar, where Moroccan hashish — with Morocco being one of the world’s largest producers — remains a primary source of contraband entering Europe.
The expulsion follows the completion of the suspect’s prison term and reflects Spain’s continued approach to remove foreign nationals convicted in serious criminal cases while bolstering border controls and cross-border policing efforts against organized drug trafficking.
