Spain: Cultural Figures Urge Government to Halt Arms Trade with Zionist Entity

Dozens of prominent figures from Spain’s cultural sector have called on their government to cease the trade of arms and military equipment with the Zionist entity, which is currently engaged in a violent war on the Gaza Strip.

In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez on Tuesday, notable personalities including filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar, writer Alana S. Portero, actress Victoria Luengo, presenter Andreu Buenafuente, and artist Rozalén urged for “urgent measures to impose an arms embargo against Israel.”

The signatories, representing various artistic disciplines, expressed their “deep concern over the grave situation of oppression and violence faced by the Palestinian people under conditions of genocide and apartheid occupation.”

In their letter, they stated that “Spain will remain complicit in this massacre in Gaza as long as it maintains military relations with Israel.” They added, “We are horrified by the daily massacres committed by Israeli army for months,” emphasizing that halting the arms trade with the Zionist entity is not only a “moral obligation” but also a “commitment to international law.”

They expect “a swift and resolute response” and a “courageous and consistent stance” from the Spanish government. “History will judge us based on our actions during critical moments like this. We cannot continue to allow Israel to kill more Palestinians. Let’s put an end to this horror,” they stated.

Meanwhile, the far-left Spanish party Podemos has urged the government to sever its ties with the Zionist entity, which has been conducting its aggressive actions against Gaza for over a year, according to Spanish media reports.

The party has threatened to withdraw its support from Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez’s government if he does not break diplomatic and trade relations with the Zionist entity.

Since October 7, 2023, the Zionist entity has been waging a war against Gaza, resulting in 42,718 fatalities and 100,282 injuries among Palestinians, predominantly affecting children and women, with over 10,000 reported missing amid widespread destruction and severe famine.
