South Sudan: WFP Halts Activities Following Aid Convoy Looting

The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) announced Wednesday the suspension of its activities in the northern region of South Sudan, after a convoy carrying 1,500 tons of aid was attacked and looted.
WFP said that it was attacked last week in the neighboring state of Upper Nile.
“A 12-boat WFP convoy transporting over 1,500 metric tons of vital food assistance was attacked multiple times by armed youth,” the UN agency said in a statement.
The cargo, which also included non-food items, was looted overnight, WFP said, emphasizing that “Attacks on humanitarians are never acceptable.”
