South Korea, US Stage Joint Naval Drills to Counter North Korean ‘Maritime Threats’

The South Korean Navy has carried out a four-day maritime exercise this week in the Yellow Sea and southern waters, aimed at strengthening preparedness against potential threats from North Korea, according to Yonhap News Agency.

Beginning on Monday, the drills involved 20 surface vessels and around a dozen aircraft from the Second and Third Fleets. U.S. Forces Korea also participated, deploying AH-64E Apache attack helicopters in support of the operation.

According to the South Korean Navy, the exercise was focused on countering threats from North Korean submarines and special forces units, as well as testing and improving logistics operations at sea. The navy emphasized that such drills are part of a continued effort to maintain high readiness against evolving security challenges in the region.
