Sonatrach’s patent portfolio grows to 30, with 40 research and development projects launched, says CEO Hachichi

ALGIERS – Sonatrach’s patent portfolio has grown to 30, according to the company’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, who also revealed the launch of 40 research and development projects, Algeria Press Service reported on Sunday.

The announcement was made during the national forum titled “National Innovation Strategy: Algeria 2027 Horizons,” held on Saturday in Algiers by the National Council for Scientific Research and Technologies, the source said.

In statements reported by Sonatrach, Hachichi explained that the number of patents owned by the company has increased from one to nearly 30 in two years. He also highlighted that around 40 research and development projects have been launched, 70% of which are carried out through national and international partnerships.

“Investing in innovation is not only a way to tackle current challenges but also an opportunity to reshape the energy sector to become more sustainable and responsible,” he said.

In this regard, Sonatrach’s CEO announced commitments to enhancing cooperation with universities, research centres, and emerging companies to establish a comprehensive system that promotes innovation.

This strategic focus on collaboration underscores Sonatrach’s proactive approach to cultivating a culture of innovation, ensuring the company stays at the forefront of technological advancements in the energy sector.
