Relentless “Israeli” attacks on Gaza continue amid ceasefire talks, deal expected by Tuesday

Negotiators will meet in Doha on Tuesday to finalise details of a plan to end the genocidal war on Gaza, after outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden indicated a ceasefire and captives release deal was imminent.

Mediators gave “Israel” and Hamas a final draft of an agreement on Monday, an official briefed on the negotiations said, after a midnight “breakthrough” in talks attended by envoys of both Biden and President-elect Donald Trump.

A Palestinian source close to the talks told Reuters he expected the deal to be finalised on Tuesday if “all goes well.”

Officials said a final draft of the agreement, which includes an exchange of captives in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners held by the Zionist occupation, was presented to all sides after the latest discussions in the Qatari capital yielded results.

According to leaked details of the deal, the main points indicate that the release of captives will be done in two stages. On the other hand, the Zionist occupation will free from its jails more than 1,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees.

The third stage of the deal will address long-term arrangements, including discussions on establishing an alternative government in Gaza and plans to rebuild it.

The troop withdrawal would also be gradual, and residents of North Gaza would be allowed to return.

There would be a significant increase of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip, where international bodies, including the United Nations, say the population is facing an imminent famine.

In parallel with the ceasefire negotiations, the Zionist occupation continues its attacks on civilians, resulting in 12 Palestinian martyrs in southern Gaza’s Khan Younis since dawn, with eight more in Deir el-Balah in the centre and four others in Gaza City in the north.

The Zionist occupation’s genocide in Gaza has resulted in at least 46,584 martyrs and 109,731 wounded since October 7, 2023.
