Pan-African Parliament President on Official Visit to Algeria

ALGIERS – Algeria’s Secretary of State to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, in charge of African Affairs, Selma Bakhta Mansouri, received on Saturday the President of the Pan-African Parliament, Fortune Charumbira, as part of his official visit to Algeria.

This visit also coincides with Charumbira’s participation in the International Conference on the Crimes of Colonialism in Africa and the Question of Reparations. The conference was initiated by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and endorsed during the African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government held in February 2025, aiming to serve as a key continental milestone in advancing justice for Africans and people of African descent.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the cooperation between Algeria and the Pan-African Parliament and discussed ways to strengthen the institution’s role in defending the just causes of the continent, particularly the Palestinian cause and the issue of Western Sahara, the Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

They also discussed support for continental efforts aimed at addressing the legacy of colonialism and demanding reparations, as well as reinforcing the voice of African peoples within the continental and international system, the statement said.
