Algeria Press Service (APS) said on Saturday that some political parties have effectively reached “political bankruptcy,” unable to offer any concrete program to the Algerian people, while relying on demagogic rhetoric as a roadmap to kick off a premature campaign for the upcoming legislative and local elections.
“One party has begun to encroach upon Algeria’s international positions, in a clear violation of the Constitution,” APS said in its report.
According to the Constitution, the authority over foreign policy rests exclusively with the President of the Republic, deriving from the popular mandate granted through his election. In his program, the Algerian President has outlined to the people the fundamental principles, policies, and approaches that Algeria will adopt regarding all current international issues.
“Interfering with foreign policy is considered a clear affront, not only to the President but also to the country, which he represents in accordance with the Constitution,” APS said.
The news agency added that another political party is exploiting demagoguery as a new mindset to capitalize on the upcoming local and national elections. “It presents judicial rulings based on the Republic’s laws against hate speech as flawed.”
Algeria Press Service warned that this is a “serious warning sign, which risks taking the Algerian people back to a time of conflict and discord, despite the fact that they had already expressed their will through their parliamentary representatives by approving the law combating hate speech among Algerians.”
It noted that some of these very parties were represented in Parliament and even voted in favor of the law.
“In the face of this blatant and morally deviant contradiction from proper political ethics, the intention of some parties becomes clear: to undermine the justice system and the laws of the Republic, and to return to the harmful practices of clientelism and loathsome regionalism—practices that have been eradicated since December 12, 2019,” APS said.
