Georgia’s President Challenges Election Results, Files Lawsuit with Constitutional Court

Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia, has taken legal action to contest the results of the October parliamentary election, filing a lawsuit with the country’s Constitutional Court.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Zourabichvili’s office announced that the president was seeking to have the election results declared “unconstitutional.” She argued that the election violated the fundamental principles of universality and secrecy.

The lawsuit, submitted by Zourabichvili’s representative Eka Beselia, was filed in Batumi, a coastal city. The election, held on October 26, saw the ruling Georgian Dream party securing an 89-seat majority out of 150 seats in parliament, winning 53.93% of the vote.

Despite the official outcome, Zourabichvili refused to recognize the results, accusing the election of being a “Russian special operation,” a claim echoed by opposition parties who have described the election as “stolen.”
