Gaza: Over 85,000 Tons of Bombs Dropped by Zionist Forces Since October 7, 2023

The Palestinian Authority for Environmental Quality reported on Wednesday that the Zionist forces have dropped more than 85,000 tons of bombs on the Gaza Strip since October 2023. This extensive bombardment has caused widespread destruction and pollution of agricultural land, potentially disrupting farming for decades.

In a statement issued to commemorate the International Day for Preventing the Exploitation of the Environment in War and Armed Conflict, observed annually on November 6, the authority declared, “The number of bombs dropped on Gaza surpasses that of World War II.”

The statement further noted, “The relentless bombardments by the occupying forces have resulted in the devastation of vast areas of farmland and the contamination of soil with toxic chemicals, which will hinder agriculture for generations.”

The authority explained that “the occupation has employed all types of weapons and missiles in its aggression, including white phosphorus, which is prohibited under international law.”

It stressed that “the damage inflicted on water infrastructure has led to polluted water leaking into underground aquifers, heralding a public health and environmental disaster that threatens hundreds of thousands of residents for years to come.”

The same report highlighted that in the occupied West Bank, “settlements and military training activities by the occupying forces pose a significant threat to the environment, as large tracts of land are subject to seizure, tree uprooting, and overgrazing.”

The Palestinian Authority for Environmental Quality urged the United Nations and the international community to “take immediate action to halt the ongoing aggression, prevent the exploitation of the environment for military purposes, and enforce international laws.”
